Effective Microorganisms® Amendments For Agriculture
Effective Microorganisms® has been used in agricultural applications since 1982. Farmers have documented vast benefits of EM·1® on 6 continents, demonstrating that EM·1® Microbial Inoculant works in all soil types, all farming systems and all climates on Earth. Today, EM·1® organic soil amendments are used in over 120 countries in all sorts of farming systems from row crops to orchards to composting to aquaculture to solid and liquid waste management. Whether conventional, organic or sustainable, any farming method can benefit from using EM•1® to improve the efficiency of their operation. EM·1® Microbial Inoculant is approved for use without restrictions on Certified Organic operations (OMRI Listed).
Conventional farmers can use EM·1® organic soil amendments for Agriculture as well as long as they do not mix the EM·1® directly into the synthetic agriculture fertilizers before diluting with water. If maintained in separate tanks and injected with water through an irrigation system or in a sprayer tank, there will not be problems. Do not apply EM·1® at the same time as pesticides as most of them kill the good microbes in EM·1® almost instantly.
EM·1® produces high levels of polysaccharides, beneficial enzymes, and organic acids that help build stable aggregate and soil structure. EM·1® increases aggregate stability and prevents the pore spaces between the aggregates from collapsing during heavy, saturating rains, thus reducing compaction caused by machinery. Furthermore, improved soil aggregate stability reduces soil erosion and run-off. Soils are better able to absorb and retain moisture, as well as cycle nutrients. EM·1® contains food grade ingredients and is manufactured at EMRO USA’s food-grade facility in Tucson, Arizona.
Enhance Organic Compost Tea with EM•1® Facultative Microbes
Compost tea is a liquid extract made from aerobically bubbling air through compost in order to grow aerobic microbes. The composting tea’s quality is directly related to the quality of the compost and has a very short shelf life, roughly 12-24 hours. The aerobic microbes require air to stay alive. Once the air is gone, they start to die off. The quality of the tea is dependent on the quality of the compost and cleanliness of the containers. For this reason, organic compost tea quality varies from batch to batch as the microbial populations vary with each new batch.
EM•1® contains facultative microbes, is consistent in quality, and is very stable, with a shelf life of several years. Adding EM•1® facultative microbes to the compost process enhances the organic compost process and ensures consistently high quality compost tea.
Compost Aeration with EM•1®
EM•1® can help you:
- Increase Aerobic Bacteria Counts
- Decrease Production Time & Costs
- Eliminate Odors
Composting is generally thought of as an environmentally-conscious waste management method. At present, the fundamental challenge composting facilities face is properly aerating compost piles. New and turned piles quickly begin to go anaerobic which can lead to pathogen growth, production of greenhouse gases and odors, and attraction of pests. Rising equipment costs have made aerating compost a prime, incurred cost for farmers. Frequent turning also exacerbates compost odor and dust issues, releasing ammonia (NH3) and methane (CH4) gases into the air, resulting in loss of valuable nutrients and organic mass. This makes for angry neighbors, unpleasant compost odor, numerous flies, and loss of profits.
EM•1® is compatible with numerous types of commercial composting systems (including in-vessel systems), and can be used to effectively treat compost odor, green waste, livestock waste, food waste, and most other agricultural, industrial wastes that will be composted. EM•1® can also be used at transfer stations for safe and effective compost odor control.
