Shilajit – An Ayurvedic Powerhouse

Often times I get the question, “How do I prevent my plants from getting sick?”. The answer is simple, and that is through plant immunity. In short, there are two primary factors that contribute to plant immunity:

  1. Adequate Mineral Nutrition
  2. Having that nutrition delivered in the form of microbial metabolites

When plants are given these essential needs in the form of microbial metabolites (fulvic acid), they are capable of stacking energy reserves in the forms of fats and waxes known as lipids. These lipids can be recognized as that glossy leaf shine you see in healthy gardens; it coats the leaf surfaces and provides a layer of protection against pests & diseases. For example, in the case of powdery mildew – you’ve just inhaled hundreds of powdery mildew spores since you’ve started reading this article. The reason you’re not falling ill is due to the fact that you’ve got a functional immune system powered by microbiology in your gut. The soil is the gut of the plant; it is the very life line the plant relies on to fend off threats in the field. Plant immunity is directly correlated with disease susceptibility.

Mineral nutrition is the other primary factor in plant health. Many NPK feeding programs lack the essential trace minerals plants require in order to reach their full inherent potential unfortunately. Even living soils can leech minerals from the soil through wind & rain, so this leaves responsibility in the hands of the farmer to meet plant needs regardless of environmental factors. Another factor we haven’t included in the 2 primary factors is plant stress. This is because it ties in with mineral nutrition, in the sense that mineral deficiencies lower plant immunity – and lowered plant immunity subjects plants to more stress. Since stress is THE MOST contributing factor in yield loss, it is vital that we mitigate any and all factors that may contribute to plant stress. Every single ounce of stress deducts a certain % of yield at the end of the day, period.

This is why we at Natural Shilajit focus on building plant immunity through mineral nutrition, supplied in the form of microbial metabolites. Our Shilajit does this effectively, and is proven over and over to bring sick gardens back to life as well as sustain healthy
gardens indefinitely.

Shilajit is an indigenous plant exudate indigenous to the sacred Altai Mountains. It’s a black resin-like substance that is 100% water soluble, making it compatible with any cultivation system whether it be soil, coco or hydro. It’s derived from decomposed plant matter and humus, which was originally trapped and crushed between layers of rock over 300 million years ago. Until recently, this Ayurvedic Rasayana has traditionally been used as a revitalizing supplement for people, but recent discoveries have proved it to be equally beneficial for plant life as well. After all, plants feed plants incredibly well!

Our Shilajit contains all of the vitamins, minerals, secondary metabolites, enzymes, fulvic acid, humid acid, lipids, and amino acids found in these primordial plants. Mind you, these aren’t your average plant systems. This nutrient-dense, latex-rich biomass was absolutely pristine, and free from chemicals fertilizers, pollutants, or toxic run off of any kind. Every summer when the rocks heat up, this resin-like mineral pitch oozes from the cracks and is responsibly collected by the natives. They hand it over to us, where it goes under cold refining processes which preserves essential compounds & enzymes found in the original biomass. This also makes for an end-product totally free of heavy metals. Our resin passes California Proposition 65 guidelines – which are the strictest in the world. To put this into perspective, produce cannot even pass Prop 65. Natural Shilajit is very safe. Most of our competitors cannot say the same.

On top of that, Natural Shilajit compliments not only drenching routines but IPM (Integrated Pest Management) routines as well, being 100% water-soluble. We commonly use it in conjunction with 2 other Ayurvedic powerhouses – Karanja Oil & Aloe Vera:

IPM Recipe (per gallon)

  • 1/64 tsp Natural Shilajit Resin
  • 1 tbsp cold pressed karanja oil (include an emulsifier)
  • 1/4 cup aloe vera gel

Spraying once every 7-10 days is best for preventing unwanted pests and diseases from showing their ugly faces (discontinue once flowering ensues).
